              State Competition

The 32nd Annual Mathematics Skills Competition is on Thursday, February 25, 2010.
Here is some information about the day’s events and registering for the events.

Registration:  Individual Tests and Team Tests:  On-line registration with ESD (through the high school skills coordinator).

Individual Competition:
The Individual Competitions will be in a multiple-choice format.  Grading will be on the basis of the total number of correct answers with no penalty for "guessing." 
There will be an open-ended, tie breaker question on each individual test.

The times and levels (which correspond to the state competition) consist of

9:00 - 9:35

Level I:  Pre-algebra

Pre-integrated

9:00 - 9:35

Level II:  One year of algebra

Integrated I  (Unified I)

9:00 - 9:35

Level III: Geometry

Integrated II  (Unified II)

9:00 - 9:35

Level IV: Two years of algebra

Integrated III  (Unified III)

9:00 - 9:45

Level V:  Open pre-calculus

Math Analysis

9:00 - 9:45

Level VI: Calculus

Calculus

Students should be entered at the level of the mathematics class they are currently taking. 
Students in an integrated curriculum can enter any level n + 1 or higher, where n represents the number of years of high school mathematics they have taken. Use the last column above for integrated classes.

It is imperative that students register for the correct level of competition.
Individual registrations should be limited to 120 students per school.

State Competition:
Students placing in the top 12% of Level III through Level VI of the Individual Competitions will be invited to participate in the Oregon Invitational Mathematics Tournament at Portland State University in May, 2010.

Team Competition:
The times for the Team Competition (for groups of three students) are:

10:00-10:55

Team II:  students from Individual Levels IV, V, and VI

11:05-12:00

Team I:   students from Individual Levels I, II, and III

Team registration should be limited to 15 teams (45 students) per school per level
It is important that students know who their team members are prior to arriving for the test.

Awards:
Students placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in each test will be awarded a partial tuition waiver for classes at Clackamas Community College.
